It isn't out of being irresponsible (Which he honestly is irresponsible for the longest time) Its that he's a bit crap at explaining his stance and he's not 100% aware of others, and that just saying "I want you to be free to do as you like" isn't always the best of answers. Especially as he led Surge to just ramp up her violence rather than calming down to the point she willingly chose death rather than letting Sonic help her.

While I agree Ian Flynn would be a boon to SEGA, I don't think they'll be doing it anytime soon because 1) They are a primarily Japanese company with different business values, and 2) SEGA is cautious of another Ken Penders event. But with the the success of the Paramount movies, the overall good reviews of the IDW comic series, and Ian Flynn being a lead writer on Sonic Frontiers, things may be looking up.

Personally I had no problems with the show. I had the expectations that this show would be more comedic and lighthearted due to Sonic 3 being based on one of the darkest stories in Sonic media. I had expectations that human characters would be more prevalent in the series due to the lack of actors available during the writers strike happening at the same time as pre-production on Sonic 3. Personally after the first two films I felt Wade needed more fleshing out from being just a dumb comic relief side character. Fans also criticize Kid Cudi’s acting but my takeaway was he was having a ball on set sometimes I’d rather see actors having fun in the roles they’re portraying rather than trying to go for an Oscar worthy performance, especially in a show like this.

I feel that there's a very solid argument to be made that by allowing free will, including the freedom to oppose someone trying to take away said free will, you encourage a productive kind of disharmony: the Doctor is free to try and build his empire, Sonic and his friends are free to oppose it, and when the dust settles, both have almost always come out stronger for it, eggman having learned or experimented with new things, and Sonic and his friends having experienced or gathered resources to improve their own standing in the world. Growth through conflict. ...of course, the problem is everyone suffering in between those two conflicts, but that's above my paygrade.

It's so out of character for Sonic to just end (kill) his enemies right then and there especially with the Sonic we have today. But if you think about world ending enemies like Dark Gia or Solaris then yes they have to die for obvious reasons. That's why he never tried to end Eggman because he knows that it's not the right thing to do even if it means his decisions will end up slapping him across the face in the future.

I don’t think he’s wrong, personally, but even if he is, that’s still perfectly in character. He’s always been portrayed as doing what he believes in, not necessarily what is “right.” He’s come to terms with the fact that he doesn’t know for certain whether or not his morals are “correct,” but he doesn’t care either way because it’s what he believes in, and at the end of the day, that’s all that any of us could have. His theme song from the Adventure games talks about how he’ll never know for certain what is wrong and what is right since morality is subjective, but it doesn’t matter because he’ll always fight for what he believes is right. In Black Knight, he is questioned about the morality of his actions, as he is ultimately fighting to ensure the inevitable death of Camelot, and he responds by claiming that he’s fine with being seen as a villain, as not everyone is going to agree with his morality. He’s not a generic bastion of good that everyone should look up to, he’s a man with his own ideology who will always fight for what he believes in. Later in this issue, when Surge uses her freedom that Sonic refuses to take from her to blow herself up, he acknowledges that he’s not inherently right in his belief that freedom is the most important thing we have, saying to himself that “the problem with free will is that some people use it to make the wrong decisions,” and some people have claimed this to be character assassination, as Sonic would never say anything bad about free will. But he’s not saying that free will is bad, he’s acknowledging that he’s not inherently right, and how that’s okay. It shows that he’s extremely mature, and wise beyond his years. That’s why I love Sonic so much, he’s much more complex than he seems.

Morality has nothing to do with effectiveness. It assumes a reality that is overall unchangable but one we live in. But effectiveness does NOT mean one is moral, even if intent and results are good. Especially if terrible things had to happen to make it that way.

Oh… I can’t answer the question due to the way it’s explained. Sonic is generally right but his writers are wrong and portray his philosophy as potentially wrong in the story and in a way that actually is wrong in reality. Because the writers failed to question if giving certain freedoms to one person is equivalent to taking them away from another. They also failed to question Sonic’s taking freedoms away from many villains simply by fighting them. Also, the option “just take them out once and for all” isn’t necessarily the right alternative either. In reality it’s more complex than the Sonic franchise but to put simply, this is primarily an effect of desensitization where most people now just default to the go-to “delete” option even in regards to a life as long as they can justify it quickly and simply without any regards to the many other factors involved. News flash: A person with narcissistic personality disorder tends to justify their abusive actions 100% of the time. So that, alone, is insufficient. Also Sonic is a hero, not an executioner. He’s also not a judge or a president. So why they thought it was in character to have Sonic get all up in everyone’s bidniz is beyond me.

Your idea is genius! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks about this stuff! I do want to bring up Batman v Superman. As it shows him in the perspective of Gotham’s inhabitants, it also showed video footage of him inside LexCorp as a fast, body snatching silhouette, which was also awesome.

To be fair sonic is only a teenager and teenagers usually want to do their own thing. Maybe when sonic is older he’ll learn to mature and settle down.

I mean thats at least a much more satisfying philosophy then the hypocrisy that is the super hero. He believes in freedom and therefore choice. So he chooses not to kill despite it being the more difficult option. He's not some super hero that believes in justice, yet constantly makes the same choice despite realizing that justice does not exist.
